My experience with special needs children...
As a former state of Hawaii department of education teacher of eighteen years, we are required to work with those with special needs. I have been working with children with special needs throughout my entire career as general education teachers are required to follow mandates created as a result of a child's IEP (Individualized Education Plan). Therefore, as long as explicit instructions are provided, I am able to work with children with special needs and if unable to I will be honest and let you know as that is a big responsibility and liability.
