A little bit about me

Hello, my name is Melissa, and I have had over 30 years of child care experience. Throughout the years, I have worked with many wonderful families who I still have incredible relationships with today. There has never really been a time when I have not been involved in childcare in one way or another, even when I was working in the corporate world as well. In addition to the time I spent being a nanny over the years, I have spent countless hours, caring for, nurturing and helping raise my nieces and nephews as well as my friends’ children. Being “Aunt Meli” to all has been the best role of my life! Although they are all grown now, I continue to have loving and deep connections with them all. I am extremely family oriented and am blessed with loving family and friends. I am a hard worker and enjoy pulling up my sleeves and doing whatever I need to to be helpful. It truly takes a village to raise children! I look forward to finding a caring family who could use my help and experience.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

While indoors, I enjoy engaging in interactive activities such as games, reading, coloring, singing, hide and go seek, arts and crafts. The activities would of course depend on the age of the children … the possibilities are endless!
I enjoy outdoor activities as well… going to the park, swinging, running, playing, throwing the ball, taking the kiddos on walks in the stroller, playing with the family dog, etc. I am open to all kinds of creative play and fun!

The most important part about being a nanny...

The most important part about being a nanny is doing all I can each day to help the child feel loved, and secure. It is my goal to help each child realize their strengths, explore their natural talents, and help them problem solve and get creative when things don’t go their way.
I believe that kindness matters … I believe in modeling the behavior we want them to follow. I believe in working with parents to understand their children, and learn what areas they feel their children need help, encouragement or guidance.
Laughter and fun are paramount, as is exploring a child’s creative side.
Children are extremely intelligent, and I believe communicating and sharing thoughts and ideas are important building blocks to help grow emotionally intelligent, and sound children (and adults).

The most important part about being a nanny...

There have been so many incredible nanny moments with each of the children I have cared for… far too many to choose my favorite! However, if I had to choose a moment where I felt like I made a difference, it would have to be when a sweet little 5 year old named Ally imparted the wisdom I shared with her (many times) to her Mom. We had discussed how to handle our feelings when we don’t get what we want, and how to move forward from it. We also discussed not giving up and instead trying plan B-Z, when plan “A” doesn’t work. Ally’s Mom called me several weeks later, to tell me a story. She was extremely frustrated that something didn’t work out as planned, and Ally explained to her that “things don’t always work out the way we want them to so you should move on and try Plan B through Z, because there is more than one way to get something done!” She asked Ally where she got her wisdom and Ally said “Meli taught me!” We laughed and laughed. She thanked me for the great advice ☺️.
