A little bit about me

Previously, I have had careers as an elementary school teacher and a birth doula. I have seven adult children and many grandgifts, but apparently I haven’t had my fill of kids because I have loved being a nanny since retiring. I enjoy teaching “my” littles and keeping them engaged whether they are six months or six years. I read multiple books daily to the children I care for from infancy on and make our time together fun. For example, this spring I taught 3.5 year old Vivian to write letters and draw by using shaving cream on the kitchen counter for her to write and draw through. We spent time going on nature walks collecting treasures like acorns and shiny rocks. We made valentines & mailed them to grandparents. We had fun making cupcakes for “IT’S NOT YOUR BIRTHDAY TODAY” which we sang. When she was younger, simple activities like blowing bubbles and counting them was fun. My time with her and big sister ended as she began preschool. I look forward to a new baby to love & care for.

More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

Additional experience includes: I was an elementary school teacher for twenty years, worked with children in a refugee camp in Malaysia, and volunteered in my children’s school. I have seven adult children and many grandchildren. I occasionally do child care locally when parents have a date night.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

I love teaching children to enjoy books and being read to. Actually, I like doing any safe activity that kids enjoy doing: arts and crafts, pretend, guessing games, walks in the park or neighborhood, baking together are some examples.

The most important part about being a nanny...

Most important is keeping the child safe. After that in importance is keeping them occupied with fun activities, and for them to know and feel I care about them. This is a brief response, but it all boils down to these.

My experience with special needs children...

Four of my years teaching were at a school for students who had learning differences. I have also had children in class with visual problems, hearing problems, and who were confined to a wheel chair.

The most important part about being a nanny...

There are so many! It’s difficult to just tell of only one. Twelve month old Vivian standing at the front door and waiting for me with a book under each arm because she loved to snuggle and read… Her giggling as we did the Tooty-Tah dance and song … 5 year old Audrey telling me I did THE BEST CRAFTS EV-ER… Pride in having learned to write her name… And so many others, some that I have captured in photos and videos I share with their parents.
