My experience with special needs children...
I was fortunate to work with two children at two of the schools I have previously worked at. One I was preparing for his transition to public schooling for kindergarten, with severe autism and sensory disorder. The other was severely autistic and my tasks were to help him engage in play with his peers and become involved with group experiences , to assist his socialisation with others.
Both boys reached their goals within their capabilities and have been able to join mainstream elementary school classes with their peers and continue to have one on one guidance with a carer.

The most important part about being a nanny...
When One student was off sick one day from school and he came in on the next day with his mum. It was my last day and he was upset he may have missed saying goodbye to me. I had been working hard with him, to help his speech pathology, and we had made great starts on building his speech and helping him pronunciate clearer. I still have the label from the gift he Brought me that day, because he touched my heart.
