More About Me
Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...
I am 10 years older than my little brother which meant a lot of one-on-one time while mom and dad ran their business. From the beginning, I always loved spending time with him. I didn't mind the dirty diapers or fussy afternoons, none of it compared to all of the sweet memories we share.
I really enjoyed working in the church nursery in elementary and middle school with my mom, and as I got older, I found actual paying jobs.
I was a nanny for two summers for a mother of two boys and we had so much fun together! I also babysat those boys every other Friday night during those 2 years.
My most memorable experience as a caretaker was when I was 19; I was a personal care assistant for a 19-year-old girl with low functioning autism. That experience was such a beautiful opportunity that I used to learn about co-regulating emotions as well as developing trust.
Last, but not least, I was a house manager and nanny for a wonderful family in Kansas City!

Activities I enjoy doing with children...
As a piano teacher, I love singing and playing music of all types!
I also started taking ice skating serious in college and love teaching kids how to skate!
I would honestly be open to whatever ideas there are! Going to the park to swing or the beach to swim- I am excited for it all!
When I am spending time with kids, I want to make sure that they are being enriched with happiness, and staying healthy weather that be state of body, mind, or soul.

The most important part about being a nanny...
Fostering the minds of today's youth through co-regulating emotions, and problem solving that keeps them involved and activities that are enriching tie for first place in my eyes.
Co-regulating emotions is so important, and I have learned about it in my adulthood. It is so important to help children to understand that there will be big emotions, they are tough... and they are not alone with them. Watching tears turn into smiles is one of the bitter-sweet joys of being a nanny.
All-hands-on-deck problem solving can often turn into a fun game! I love finding ways to provoke thinking. For example- if I were at a grocery store with the 3 year old I looked after, I could tell her that the fruit aisle is one way and the bread aisle is the other. Which one is closest?
It's simple, but that provokes visual spatial awareness. It is simple things like this that can be integrated into day-to-day life that fosters independence.
I genuinely cannot choose between these two as they go hand in hand.

My experience with special needs children...
I worked as a Personal Care Assistant with a 19 year old girl with low functioning autism. I learned so much from the time spent with her including co-regulating emotions, calming tantrums and turning around a rough day into a good one!
I also recently taught two siblings piano at their home and and one of them has autism. Working with that family was such a gratifying experience because that mother was so invested in keeping her squirmy worm focused and calm throughout the lessons while establishing boundaries. I'll never forget the first time she played through her first song- she pulled her dad into the music room so that he could hear for himself. I ended that lesson by playing a ballad for them all and watched as my new student became completely mesmerized by the melody and the movement of my hands across the keys. I was truly humbled by that experience and reminded of the beauty in life that we can help these kids see for themselves.

The most important part about being a nanny...
When I started working with the Fairless family, their daughter, Abi was sad that her old nanny was gone. There were a lot of growing pains, and patience involved, but one day a few weeks in, Abi's mom told her it was naptime, and that she needed to come upstairs for story time so she could go back to work.
We were all expecting the meltdown, and instead, she just said, 'okay!' took my hand, and strolled off. During story time, Abi got up into my lap and rested her head against my arm...
I about started to cry! These kiddos can really catch you off guard sometimes, in the most beautiful ways. I finished the book, and told her how much I like being her nanny, to which she responded that she likes that I'm her nanny, too.
That is not just my favorite nannying moment, but one of my favorite moments in general.

Hello!
From the I was young, I have loved children. As an adult I have worked with children, both in daycare settings as well as in home. I have experience with special needs including cerebral palsy. While working in child care, some of my task included: story time, playtime, helping with snack and mealtimes, potty training, and naps. I also help with cleaning around the house.
I’ve had several people tell me that I work well with children that I am able to play on their level and make them feel well loved and nurtured. Whenever I have cared for little ones, I have always tried to care for them as if they were my own!
