A little bit about me

Hello! My name is Miriam. My pronouns are she/her. I will be moving in August to attend Bard College, where I plan to complete my bachelor’s degree after taking a few years off to work.
I have over eight years of paid experience as a nanny, teacher, and childcare professional. I currently work as a class teacher at a Waldorf kindergarten and am in the process of earning my Waldorf grades teacher certification. I am certified in CPR and First Aid, hold a food handler’s certificate, and have completed coursework in child psychology and educational philosophy. I’m happy to provide references from fellow teachers, supervisors, and previous childcare employers.
I have a valid driver’s license and a safe, reliable car.
As I will be a full-time student in the fall, my ideal position would be one that can accommodate a student schedule—such as mornings, occasional full days, evenings, or weekends. Thank you for your consideration!

More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

- Assistant preschool teacher in a Montessori school
- Kindergarten teacher at a Waldorf school
- Have lead several summer camps for varying age groups
- Have been a nanny and babysitter since the age of 15
- The eldest of 7 children :)

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

I enjoy creative, nature-based, and imaginative play. I love natural therapeutic activities like log balancing, building fairy houses, stick crafts, imaginative games, gardening, wildcrafting, making natural dyes, and learning about herbs and their traditional uses. I have experience in herbalism, naturalistic medicine, and traditional crafts, which often inspire the activities we explore together.

I’m also passionate about the arts—painting, drawing, and sculpting with clay—and enjoy introducing children to different materials and creative processes. Children are naturally imaginative, and I love witnessing their originality.

I have a background in theater and opera and am a trained professional vocalist, which brings music, storytelling, and expressive play into my time with children. I also love field trips and sharing the excitement of discovering and learning new things together!

My experience with special needs children...

I do not have extensive one-on-one experience caring for children with special needs outside of my work as a teacher. However, in the classroom I have developed inclusive approaches and accommodations that have taught me the importance of equity, patience, and awareness in group settings. I have also learned a great deal from fellow teachers and professors, and I recognize there is always more to learn. If I care for a child with special needs, my priority is to listen closely to their caregiver and learn directly from the child as well, so I can support them in the way that works best for them.
