Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...
I became a big sister at 7 years old, so I've kind of been a built-in babysitter most of my life. Being a big sister has genuinely been the single greatest experience of my life. For 12 years, I have gotten to watch her grow into a beautiful, intelligent, witty, and confident young woman. I've gotten to teach her so much, as her big sister, but being that person for her has shaped who I am and taught me so much about how children learn and grow into who they are.
Activities I enjoy doing with children...
I love structured creative activities like painting, coloring, drawing, puzzles, etc. But I also think it is important to allow for independent free play between kids(if there's more than one).
The most important part about being a nanny...
I think being a nanny/babysitter is so special because you get to build a relationship with the children as an adult who they can trust that is not their parents or teachers. Most kids see their babysitters as someone who comes over to play with them, like a friend. Earning a child's trust is crucial to maintaining that dynamic. If they feel comfortable, they will talk to you like you're their big sister, and that can make all the difference. I think it is always beneficial for kids to have an extra support person in their life.
The most important part about being a nanny...
There are so many beautiful moments to experience in childcare, but I have to say the most amazing one is being greeting with the child yelling your name and running up to give you a big hug. I work with a child who has a secure attachment style, and often gets upset when she realizes her parents are leaving. So whenever she would greet me with a big ole hug, I knew we were gonna have a great night.
