The most important part about being a nanny...

I used to take the little girl I cared for to the train station (NY) because she liked to wave at the commuter trains, and got very excited when they'd blow their whistles. One time, we were at the train station, and she pointed to the trash can, and started calling out the letters. I had worked with naming the letters in the alphabet for MONTHS with her, although it never seemed like she was really listening. That day, she's pointing at letters, and telling me what they were, I was surprised and delighted, to learn that she had been listening, all those times I had called out letters to her, in pictures, and on her alphabet puzzle! It was very exciting to see how smart she was, and how easily she had learned!
