More About Me
Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...
I have done lots of volunteer work with kids. My Grammy runs a daycare, which is where I spend a lot of my time. I also have baby-sat for close family friends and neighbors.
Activities I enjoy doing with children...
I love watching TV and having movie nights. I love playing outside and frequenting parks as well. I feel like every child should have a pillow fight at least once. I enjoy cooking and I adore it when kids help me in the kitchen (no knives or stoves obviously). I enjoy hand clap games. I love karaoke nights. I am a world class champion at hide and seek. Though I somehow always lose in tag (And it's definitely not cause I purposely run slow 😉).
The most important part about being a nanny...
To me the most important part to being a nanny is the safety of the children. But after that I would say it's making sure the kids are comfortable with me. Taking time to help them understand that I'm not trying to intrude on their life, rather be apart of it. Even if it is just temporary, I want, even when I do leave, the kids to remember me. I want the to remember all the good times, all the bad, and all the in-between. I want them to have fond memories that they could also look back on and think 'I really learned something'
My experience with special needs children...
So, the only real experience I have is with my little brother, who is autistic and this sweet little girl I baby-sat for my neighbors for 3 years, who had down syndrome.
The most important part about being a nanny...
When I baby-sat for a family friend. It was my first time meeting her kids, a 1 year old boy and a 6 year old girl. The family had a dog, and they had a private pond in their backyard. Anyway, I had let the dog out, as I was instructed and he somehow made his way to the pond. Veyra, the little girl had warned me right before he jumped in that he couldn't swim, so of course I left her on the porch and her brother in his little roller chair, and I jumped in after the dog. It was only after I pulled him out, and we were both shaking and wet, that veyra decided to tell me she was joking. I wasn't mad, and I actually thought it was funny, but we spent the next 50 minutes attempting to give the dog a bath (which for a dog that just jumped into a pond, he was surprisingly difficult to bathe.) anyway, I will never forget that moment or that family, and I still drive to see them during the holidays.
