Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...
15+ years as a nanny/house manager. Aside from being a nanny I have babysat since I was a teenager for tons of families and friends. I also raised my 2 nieces for 6 years. While raising the children I volunteered quite a bit in my company with our local youth education center. Due to my passion for children I developed a mentorship group in my community as well. Eventually, I became a Behavior Technician providing ABA therapy for children on the Autism spectrum.
Activities I enjoy doing with children...
I enjoy doing all activities with children. Creative play, going to parks, learning to ride bikes, visiting new play areas, nature, arts and crafts etc.
The most important part about being a nanny...
The important part to me about being a nanny is making sure I develop and have a great bond with the child. In order to do this I feel that there needs to be great communication between myself and the parents. It’s important to me that I learn about that child’s likes and dislikes to be as effective with them as possible. Knowing what is expected of me and how I’m able to provide the best care for the child is essential. Also, being in a healthy/stress free work environment is important to me as well.
My experience with special needs children...
Throughout the years I’ve care for children with ADHD, Down Syndrome, Autism and other mental illnesses.
The most important part about being a nanny...
I’d say a funny, memorable moment would be random times where we would laugh hysterically! The joy of children is just absolutely amazing. So watching them burst into laughter over the simplest things from an infant to a teenager is priceless to me. Just recently a funny moment for me would be a 3 years reaction to me showing up without fresh baked cookies. He became very serious and asked me why didn’t I bring any cookies to his house. All I could do was laugh because he had the most serious look on his face. Needless to say I returned a few days later with fresh baked cookies and all was well!!
