A little bit about me

My name is Nyla Rusen, I'm 23 years old and a professional nanny with 7 years of experience caring for private families in Baltimore County and Pittsburgh. I have 4 years of formal education in Child Development and Elementary Education. As the oldest of 5, caring for children has always been a passion of mine. I am CPR, First Aid, Safe Sleep, and Water Safety certified. My approach is warm, gentle, and attachment-based, creating a loving environment where children feel secure while exploring and learning at their own pace. I am experienced with infant milestones, sleep transitions, Baby-Led Weaning, tummy time, crawling, walking, baby sign language, language development, and potty training. I also have experience as a home manager, including housekeeping, laundry, meal preparation, deliveries, and home-chef duties. I love nature, walks, cooking, travel, reading, and making every day something to celebrate! I am seeking a full-time position with 40 guaranteed hours at $37–$40/hour.

More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

I have been a full-time professional nanny and weekend sitter for over 8 years, watching children and babies from ages 2 months to 10 years. I am the oldest of 5 and have worked and grown up alongside my mom at her in home daycare. Starting at age 13 I was babysitting for everyone in my neighborhood and all of my family friends. I have worked for over 5 profesional families with children from 2 months to 7 years old. I love working with a wide variety of ages, and although I went to school to be an elementary school teacher, I am now pursuing my postpartum doula certifications as i want to focus more on specialized infant care.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

I love daily life with children as they truly make such normal mundane moments so magical. From teaching them to help out with cleaning, cooking in the kitchen, baking, nature scavenger hunts, playing dress up, making forts, taking long walks, trying new foods, reading to them, seasonal crafts, dancing and singing for them, taking them to the library, cafe, or museums. Exploring with children is so much fun because they have such an eye for detail!

The most important part about being a nanny...

The most important part about being a nanny is being a safe, loving, trusting caregiver for a child and providing their home more peace. Whether that is the peace of leaving your child with someone you deeply trust, the peace of coming home to a giggling baby and a clean kitchen with dinner on the table, the peace to take a nap and relax because someone has it covered. Providing peace is extremely important to me as a nanny alongside providing the most nurturing, creative, fun, supportive environment for a child to thrive in.

The most important part about being a nanny...

My favorite nanny moment has to be a sad/funny moment from my dear nanny family in Pittsburgh with 3 wonderful girls. The middle child who was 16 months when I started with the family, refused to call the new nanny by any name other than mine for 6 months after I moved away! It definitely made me feel so loved and was so fitting for her personality but pulled my heart strings the most!

I am a recent graduate of UVA and do not start full time work for a few more months. I am open to baby sitting full time until March 2024 and part time after that. I enjoy all things outdoors, interactive games, story telling, play making, fort building, and all things athletics. I have a 2 year old poodle that I often run with during my exercise time & grew up playing lots of basketball. I just moved to the area and am looking to meet other families and explore the fun activities of the DMV!
