One of the most important things for me is making sure your kids feel safe and comfortable with me! As well as updating parents on what their kids are enjoying doing throughout the day to provide reassurance for them as well :) And having fun is always a top priority as well!
My experience with special needs children...
My youngest brother who is 12 years old has IDD and ADHD. I currently work full time as a mental health technician with kids ages 5-18 with a variety of mental illnesses and behavioral difficulties. I work in a residential treatment facility and do daily programming, planning group activities, serving meals for the kids that live there.
The most important part about being a nanny...
My favorite nanny moment was with a 1.5 year old girl I babysat two summers ago. Being with her for a majority of the week, she became more comfortable around me as the summer progressed. It was an eye opening moment when she started talking more and could say my name!
