A little bit about me

I have been taking care of children & the elderly since 2011. I started out working with the elderly while working towards a bachelor's degree in art. All of my core subjects are geared towards elementary education/ collaborative special needs. Since being able to have the opportunity to work both in the public/ private school sector as a substitute teacher and then getting to work as a regional manager doing field work and then eventually getting into private home health (non-medical). I have learned that I am a better fit for private home health. I enjoy being able to have the freedom to be able to work with the families and see where I am going to benefit the family needs the most.

More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

I am have been blessed to work with several families along the gulf coast who has children from the ages of newborn up to nine years old including an autistic little girl and a young girl who has Down syndrome. I have served families with weekday work, weekend work as well as date nights and I have also gotten the honor to assist families who have traveled to the gulf coast vacationing with their families. In doing so, I have provided meal planning, prepping, preparing meals with feeding sessions, story time, nap time, bath time, bed time, daytime activities based on the children’s ages, limited screen time, outdoor discovery, etc. based on the children’s interests. Also, if there is already a routine set in place for the child or children then I am always happy to assist in following the routine.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

Reading children story books to the kids and getting to explore each individual page of the book with the kid(s) Planning arts and crafts with the kids and then getting to learn about what they enjoyed mostly in the process of them creating their piece of art. Singing music with kids. Dancing with the kids. I enjoy when I know that what I have been teaching them is starting to settle into their minds and they are beginning to understand whatever it is that I am teaching them. I also enjoy learning from the kids, they have quite the imagination and love to explore and express themselves. I learning about their similarities and their differences as individuals and as siblings if I am getting to tend to siblings. I like to prepare meals with the kids, work in activity books, create a game within any given room with the objects within the room, rather it be a scavenger hunt, counting, looking for specific colors. I like playing cards, board games, anything fun and interesting really :)

The most important part about being a nanny...

The most important part about being a nana is that I get to love, nurture and guide them in a gentle, calm, but stern loving way!

My experience with special needs children...

Since moving back to the coast back in January of 2023 I have gotten to work with two children who had special needs. One little girl is severely non-verbal autistic, I also helped the mom with their newborn son. I worked with her during the week and weekend as needed in Mobile, Al. and the other little girl has Down syndrome and I worked with her and her little sister while they were vacationing in Dauphin Island, Al. for the weekend.

The most important part about being a nanny...

I honestly have had too many to count. I really am blessed, but if I had to pick just one moment, it would have been when I got to watch a little girl that I use to tend to, take her first step, it was a milestone moment and I was just glad that I had gotten to be a part of it. We had been practicing walking for a couple of months, so it was definitely rewarding to be able to be the first person to see her take her first big girl step!
