I have done volunteer work with the children at my church (Zion rest missionary Baptist in Austin, Texas) and I’ve done volunteer work with the children of the employees at google inc, (Austin, Texas)

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

I love hiking and swimming. My favorite activity is playing games (card games, board games, videos games) because it allows me to see the child’s personality and this, I feel, is the best way to bond.

The most important part about being a nanny...

I love being able to help children grow and find themselves. I had a nanny when I was growing up and she played a large part in shaping my character and my appreciation for different people and different cultures.

My experience with special needs children...

Recently while shadowing a physician I worked with a special needs child. This child was non-verbal and had autism, but despite these things he was able to articulate the region his pain was in and how it happened. I later went in to spend time with this patient to better understand the situation he was in. While spending time with him I noticed how vibrant his personality was and although he was in pain he managed to make light of the situation (like making silly faces when pointing out the pain, similar to how I make light of things as well and on this we connected). Going into the situation I was told to be very cautious of how I spoke to this patient and his parents but after spending time with him I noticed no more caution that what I use for my peers was needed. I really enjoyed my time with him and I feel he allowed me to grow more into my passion for taking care of people.

The most important part about being a nanny...

My favorite nanny moment by far was taking one of my sweet baby girls out to a nearby water attraction south of Austin, Texas (where I reside during the summer). She was so excited to get on her floaties and sit under the “waterfall” that was there. To see her light up with pure amazement at the gushing water was a joy and relaying that story to her parents made it worth while. They were happy to know that their daughter was able to experience the outdoors and be excited by something as simple as running water.
