A little bit about me

My name is Rachel Newport, I am a 22-year-old Senior at Olivet Nazarene University in Illinois getting my child development major in the Spring of 2022 and I am looking to nannying this summer! My goal is to be a live-in nanny with a family May-August in San Diego, and then move into my rental home in September while still working with the same family. At school, I am on the varsity volleyball team and I am involved in our Child Development club! I have been a summer nanny for the past three summers to one family, while also working closely with other families! I have also babysat multiple families over the past years, done observation hours in a school setting, worked at a daycare, and helped intern at a camp that worked with children who have disabilities! I am a bright, energetic, fun-loving girl who loves and cares so much about children!

More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

I worked towards the end of my junior year of high school going into Summer at this daycare. There I played with children, fed them, changed diapers, put them to sleep, and so much more. I learned different techniques that helped me care for them as well. I worked part-time in the Spring of 2018, and full-time in the summer. Working with all ages of children allowed me to learn the different roles and responsibilities I have for those age groups. I chose to leave the daycare because I wanted a more personal job where I got to work more one on one with children allowing me to develop relationships with them and their families. After I worked in the daycare, I decided I wanted to nanny for a family. In the summers of [phone number hidden], I nannied for the same family while also helping other families part-time. In my schooling, I have also done observation hours and interned at Embracing Abilities where I worked with different aged children who had disabilities.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

I love going to the zoo, taking them to the pool, beach, going on hikes, spoiling them with ice cream, and of course, CHICK-FIL-A!!

My experience with special needs children...

This summer (2021), I took an internship at a summer camp called “Embracing Abilities” where I helped camp counselors with their campers for the week. Each camper had a different disability varying from autism, cerebral palsy, down syndrome, to being physically impaired. I loved being part of a tight-knit community that actively sought out children and made sure they had the best summer of their lives! I worked with ages from 6 all the way to 14! This wide range of ages allowed me to understand the child individually along with their disability. I chose to leave this internship because I had to return to college in August!
