A little bit about me

I’ve worked with special needs kids before, my little sister in fact since the age of 8 I’ve learned how to help care for her. I’ve also help care for the younger kids at family gatherings including keeping them entertained, safe, engaged and happy. I’ve worked in a day care as well, I was placed in the 1 and under section of the daycare and learned under some of the longest employed employees. My most recent job was at a after school and before school program, I worked mornings with a class of 20 4-5th graders helping with any homework that still needed to be done, leading them through fun activities both in and out of the classroom including physical activities that helped make exercise fun. My after school class was a class of 10 kindergarteners leading them through a similar schedule. Each week was dedicated to learning about 1 subject following the S.T.E.A.M style (science, technology, engineering, art, math) while making sure it was fun and engaging for the students.

More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

I did volunteer work at the Child Development Center on base when it was still running smoothly, I helped keep the room stocked and cleaned, feed the toddlers as well as the infants, and I’ve helped put them down for naps and helped change diapers. I also have experience as an after school kindergarten teacher. I worked with a class of 10 students ages 4-6 leading them through classroom activities, snack, outside play and homework. I also worked as a before school teacher to a class of 20 ranging from 9-11 leading them through the same schedule.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

Painting, puzzles and coloring are some of the indoor activities I’ve learned kids love doing.
Outdoor activities for the older kids I’ve found are soccer, tag and chase while the younger kids love to explore and the infants it’s good for them to get outside for a bit but always in the shade.

My experience with special needs children...

I have a little sister who has Rubinstein syndrome, she has developmental delays both mentally and physically. I’ve learned how to handle her G-Tube including hooking up formula, switching it to water, setting the pump settings, changing her G-Tube, playing with her to help her learn different things, and I’ve learned how to communicate with her on her level.
