The most important part about being a nanny...
Understanding, compassion, trust and respect for the child and just love. You have to understand that children are just little people navigating the world for the first time and they need guidance and warmth to help them build their own confidence and values. You cant view any child as “bad” children have to be taught how to regulate emotions and if they are struggling they will act out in ways you wouldn’t expect but its just a need that needs to be met.

My first long term nanny position was in 2021 and at the end of our contract I decided to go a different route but it was heartbreaking to leave the 18 month old I had been helping raise for over a year. On my last day there was lots of tears, mainly from me. But I knelt down and I told the boy that I loved him so much and I was gonna miss him and he came right over, took out his pacifier and hugged me and kissed my head. That moment has stuck with me ever since.
Now that was the same child who, while I was cooking, stripped down and smeared his diaper everywhere! No matter what I still love what I do and cherish every moment.
