A little bit about me

Hello! My name is Sachi and I am new to Hattiesburg from Washington state. I have experience nannying, teaching, tutoring and lifeguarding, and I absolutely love kids! As a nanny, I prefer to keep kids active, safe, and having fun whether that be through leading living room dance-offs or helping with homework. I have a degree in Clarinet Performance and would be more than happy to incorporate music into our daily routine. My time as an ESL tutor has also given me countless teaching techniques to work with children of all ages and skill levels while keeping it fun and engaging. If you're looking for a responsible and fun nanny, the search is over!

More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

Private Clarinet Instructor, ESL Tutor, Volunteered to work with the woodwind section of the band/orchestra at many local schools, Instructor at youth chamber music summer program, Lifeguard at local waterslide park, Host of kid's birthday party (and party planner), experience working with children with special needs (and an older brother with special needs who is one of my favorite people on this earth).

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

Going to the park/for a walk, making up songs to help with studies,/manners/anything they need help remembering, arts and crafts, making up dances to their favorite songs, teaching how to tidy up/cook. I understand that we all have obligations, but why shouldn't we have fun while completing them? I like to use my creativity to specialize care to fit the needs/likes/learning styles of each individual child, but we definitely will stay busy!

The most important part about being a nanny...

The most important thing a nanny can bring to the children in their care (aside from safety, of course) is acceptance, I think. Children in my care should feel free to be themselves, and I see it as my job to help them discover, embrace and embody their best skills and character traits to be confident in themselves and their abilities. With that goal in mind, I love to always try something new (baking something, singing a new song, doing a somersault, reading out loud, etc.) so they will know it is ok to try, even if you fail at first! I really try to lead by example in this, and have no problem failing spectacularly (and publicly!) at something new in order to demonstrate this point. It is important to me to be consistent in upholding the rules and values of the household, but I usually put a creative spin on it (making up games/reward systems for chores/homework, etc.).

My experience with special needs children...

I grew up with my older brother who has Down's Syndrome. We have always been really close, so I have been a helper at various Special Olympics events, Special Education field trips, etc. I have worked with children and young adults on varying points of the autism scale, children and young adults who are non-verbal, children with ADHD/OCD/other behavioral "disorders", etc.

The most important part about being a nanny...

There are a few, but the first one that came to mind was a few years ago when I was nannying 3 kids and their parents had a date night. They didn't get home until really late and at a certain point, the kids started to panic. When convincing them that they should really be happy that their parents are having this time together (isn't that so sweet that they love each other so much, guys??) didn't work, we put on their mom's favorite Bollywood film. In no time at all, the older sisters were teaching their brother and I how to do a Bollywood dance and everyone was all laughs. We wore ourselves out and I had them in bed asleep when their parents got home (mom and dad were very surprised they went to sleep without them there!).
