A little bit about me

I raised my own two children one with autism now 23 and doing great. The other with X-linked SCIDS. He needed chemotherapy and a bone marrow transplant at a month and a half old. I babysat until my oldest was 5 I work with young adults that have intellectual disabilities. I am very patient and loving. I worked in the medical field before I had my first child. I do know CPR but have yet to do my recertification. That is something I absolutely am willing to do. I had multiple challenges with my kids one was learning how to work with a child that has autism. Then spending 6 months in the hospital with my youngest after his transplant. When we came home I had to do central line changes every three days. One was located in his chest and the other in his groin. Also when I was 19 my sister asked me to watch her son because he cried all the time and was always sick. Nobody else was willing to do it because they were afraid. He ended up passing away with X-linked SCIDS at 5 months old.

More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

I worked as a para educator at UHS for 5 years. I also work part time with adults that have intellectual disabilities. One is non verbal and the other is verbal but has intellectual issues.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

I enjoy keeping kids active in anyway possible. I like trying to get them interested in art, books, animals, cooking, learning how to plant vegetables and flowers. I also enjoy working with kids on educational content as well as important basic living skills at an early age. My youngest learned how to sort and wash laundry by 7. I started working with him at age 3 making a game of it . He thought it was fun and became great at doing laundry!!

The most important part about being a nanny...

The most important part of being a nanny is following the parents instructions and wishes for their children. I also believe it’s important to teach kindness, inclusion and to expose the children to different cultures as well as children with disabilities.

My experience with special needs children...

I have my own experience with my oldest child with special needs. They are on the autism spectrum. I learned a lot through the AEA. I also worked with high school level sped students. The range of their needs varied from severe to moderate. I have learned to adapt to each child’s specific needs quickly.

The most important part about being a nanny...

I was a nanny for a Korean family when I was 19. They only needed me for about 5 months. My favorite moment with the kids was making special connections with each one and earning their trust. Their ages were 2, 4 and, 7. I loved their different little personalities.
