Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...
I have worked at several daycares over the years and worked with children with severe autism. I completed school to become a physicians assistant but had to leave that behind after living in the hospital on and off for 5 years while my son went thru chemo. Just couldn't be in that field anymore! When I could, I volunteered at the Cleveland Clinic helping with the little ones whose parents weren't able to be there. While raising my boys, we fostered 2 teenagers and always had an extra kid or two that stayed with us for months at a time. My house was the place the kids came to play! I always wanted a house full of children and since I was only blessed with 3 I had to borrow others!
Activities I enjoy doing with children...
I love to bake with them, do arts and crafts, play with playdough, color, and play hide and seek. I was always surrounded by boys so when I got a little girl over it was such a thrill to do girly things like play with dolls and paint their nails!
The most important part about being a nanny...
When you teach them something new and you can see the light bulb go off in their heads! I love that!
My experience with special needs children...
I had a baby with cancer and we made it thru! I worked in a group home for a couple of years working with 5 autistic children ranging from 5 to 16 years old in a home setting. Then our neighbors moved in and had 2 severely autistic twin boys and I was their relief person a few days a week.
The most important part about being a nanny...
All of them! When I come to the door and the kids come running with hugs and kisses or they have a story from school they can't wait to tell me! All those moments are so special.
