A little bit about me

My name is Sarah Little. I was born in Tennessee, but when I was 5 I moved to Salt Lake City. I moved back to Tennessee when I was 13 and to this day I am still accused of being a "Yankee". I don't consider that an insult.
I'm going through a bit of a transitional period after caring for my dad during the last 2 years of his life, he passed away last year from a genetic lung condition. Prior to caring for my dad I assisted him in caring for my grandmother. I've got several years of experience selling various things in flea markets and online. I worked in the service industry from a very young age, and bartended for 8 years where I was the go-to for cutting guests off.. so I suppose one might say that I've got plenty of experience in babysitting children of all ages and temperaments.
In all seriousness, kids are the future. I'm mindful of what I say and do in their presence. I was raised on a farm and I am a somewhat skilled "survivalist". I encourage abstract art and I can read good

More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

My mother was a nurse (health conscious and merciless) and my dad was a police officer (militant and overly cautious). I assisted with the upbringing of my little sister, and I'm my older brother's big sister. I don't mean to toot my own horn but I'm my nieces and nephews favorite family member. I've definitely caught a baby by their ankle before if you know what I mean. I've got good directional hearing and ninja-like reflexes.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

Painting, kinetic sand sculpting, question answering, reading actual books, watching classic cartoons, Steve Irwin-ing critters, making jewelry, watching ant farms, practicing round house kicks, talking like a Martian

The most important part about being a nanny...

Growing up I experienced being treated differently by certain adults within my family and at school due to who my parents were (or weren't). I remember my brother's grandmother being the most open hearted kind lady I knew. My brother's mom passed away when he was a toddler, and my dad married and divorced my mom by the time he was 7 and I was 9 months old. So when my dad had to work we would go to my "Granny Douglas's". I was the only child she cared for that wasn't related to her and I didn't know it for a long time. She was a notably country lady that had seen it all when it came to kids, haha, and I always felt at home in her presence. As an adult I try to be easy to be around like she was.

My experience with special needs children...

I've cared for children with learning disabilities and autism and I have a small amount of previous experience with an infant who has down syndrome

The most important part about being a nanny...

Recently I introduced my basset hound to a three month old baby. She was fascinated with him, her jaw literally dropped with disbelief. She seemed comfortable reaching up touching his floppy ears and couldn't take her eyes off of him, so I sat her up in her bouncer so they could observe each other. (I'm aware of the caution that should be taken when it comes to dogs and children... I've also seen this dog allow babies to poke him in his eyeballs without making a peep)
So they are looking into each other's eyes and I'm petting him and talking to her about what a sweet man Duke is.. when his true hound dog instincts took over. He crept closer, and as he did she took a quick deep breath in and held still as a board as he sniffed her face within an inch of her nose. Just as she realized he wasn't considering eating her.. she made the unmistakable face of horror and disgust, wiggling from her head to her feet.
His slobbery jowls had touched her arm.
She still loves him.. from a distance.
