A little bit about me

Hi, I’m Sara.
I’m a special needs mom, a Mental Health First Aid responder, a CPR-certified, DBT- and RBT-trained childcare professional with over 20 years of experience — and the kind of person who will love your child like my own while knowing exactly how to support them.
I’ve raised a gifted child with autism and ADHD successfully who is thriving, as an honors student on the deans list and away at college double science majoring to preparing to become a veterinarian. I believe the success of my own child speaks for my experience. I’ve assisted in navigating IEPs, managed dietary sensitivities, and built enriching programs for hundreds of kids ages 2–12 in both faith based and educational settings. I show up with patience, training, and heart — every single time.
I’d love to meet your family.

More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

I have run after school and before school programming within the Dallas ISD and Flint Community Schools districts.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

I enjoy introducing children to SEL social emotional learning, through encouraging them to express and identify their feelings and process their emotions in healthy ways. This includes stretches, outdoor walks and nature activities, breathing exercises, singing, art, and music. I encourage expression and child development that is individualized to each childs personal needs, which centers the original voice of the child as important. I love museums, libraries, the symphony, and science experiments that encourage learning through hands-on experience. I also enjoy literature and developing children's natural mental aptitude for bilingualism by singing in different languages.

The most important part about being a nanny...

Is serving and seeing the child develop into their own person. I understand that service is something not to be taken lightly and I deeply believe that children, pets, and the elderly are the closest you can get to Divinity. I honor that in each soul I encounter and am mindful and very careful to remember that always, and center my heart in love and service. I believe meeting the needs of the family in a support role that affirms their parenting and provides stability and safety for the children, and reinforces support for them as parents as they grow and learn with the child and discover the ever-changing needs of the family. I bring peace and comfort into spaces in order for those things to happen smoothly.

My experience with special needs children...

I come from a family impacted by Autism and ADHD. I am so grateful for my father's behavioral health background and my mother's music background because it anchored me to care for myself and my child, who is living with both autism and adhd as well, and I have been able to ensure that she thrives on a mostly holistic protocol, which also includes some medical support. She is wrapping up her junior year as a bio/chem major at UNT Dallas with hopes of becoming a veterinarian. I have also been instrumental in shaping the early lives of my 4 nephews, who are all impacted by autism and adhd and have helped them develop language, both verbal and nonverbal, without emotional outbursts. I have extensive experience with special needs children, also within the school district, and Montessori environments, and am familiar with navigating IEPs and therapies that assist them with coping and excelling in education.

The most important part about being a nanny...

At my interfaith church, I facilitate children's activities, and my favorite moment has been when Shazaade, a beautiful young child impacted by trauma and being tongue-tied, who was mostly non-verbal, began to speak clearly after working with him 2 days a week for nearly 1 year. We were on the playground, and he came up to me and began to ask if I could please play on the slide with him. I stopped him because his words which typically ran together and were spoken with little to no confidence, were confident and clear, and I was able to answer him. I shared with him that I was so proud of him and excited that he had expressed his desire to play and had asked me to play with him and done so plainly and confidently, and I could respond to him eagerly. I had to take a moment, it brought tears to my eyes. I knew at that moment that I had done my job well.
