A little bit about me

I have a passion for providing adequate childcare and assisting parents/guardians in the developmental process of their youth. I am going into college for early childhood development to further my career and understanding of the many ways specific factors go into the growth of children. In my spare time, I dabble in the visual arts and play the drums. I often use my creativity to provide an outlet for adolescents when dealing with new things that just come with growing up, and to provide them with a voice for the many thoughts they could have. In my work I often “look for the yes”, which means to try my best to say no to as little as possible, unless it’s something that could put the child and/or others in danger ; as many experiences can be used as teaching moments and allows the child to learn what it is that they do or don’t like. I hope to be able to provide as many children as possible with the care and support needed to develop into strong, world-changing adults.

More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

Throughout my childcare experience, I’ve been a ‘nanny’, a camp counselor, and an after-school/daycare teacher. I worked as a nanny for my brother, helping to take care of his son, my nephew. I’ve worked as an annual camp counselor at an overnight camp in the Catoctin Mountains for 3 years now, providing 24/7 care and safety to groups of up to 23 campers ranging in ages from 9-14. I’ve also worked as an afterschool care provider for a school in my hometown of Philadelphia, giving care and educational help to students, from elementary to middle school, helping them to understand their day to day lessons and providing many fun experiences for them to enjoy.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

l enjoy doing visual art with children, painting and/or drawing can provide a creative outlet for many kids and their creativity. When I have the time I can also bring my drum set along, the drums are easily usable by children and allow for them to be loud and rambunctious while also making music. Throughout my experience, both at summer camps anf at schools, I’ve done many outdoor activities that can allow children to let out excess energy. From your age-old games of tag and hide-and-seek to some of camp games like parasite, jugs, and my favorite get dirty get clean ; where me and the children run around in mud, sand, grass, etc., getting as dirty as possible, then hosing each-other off or dumping buckets of water on eachother, to get as clean as possible. I also enjoy chill outside activities, like Cloud T.V, where we watch the clouds and determine what pictures we see in them, sometimes even making up entire T.V scenarios with different clouds.

The most important part about being a nanny...

The most important part to me about being a nanny is providing a safe space where children can vent their frustrations and speak their mind. I hope to teach the children I nanny that their voice matters, especially in today’s world where many young people are often silenced or have their words dismissed as blabber. I hope to teach emotional intelligence, where they can understand why they feel what they feel and how to center and talk about those feelings, working around them to become better afterwards. I also hope to nurture critical thinking skills, I’ve found that many adolescents have very profound minds that get diminished over time due to having no one to listen to their thoughts and ideas. I love hearing the ideas of our youth, especially because they often have thoughts about the world we live in.
