Hi! My name is Shamaiyah, and I’m a 20-year-old social work junior with extensive experience working with children year-round.

During the summers, I’ve worked as a full-time camp counselor with children ages 4–11, and during the school year, I work at an elementary school with children ages 5–9. In my teen years, I also worked as a babysitter for children ranging from 6 months to 11 years old.

I am CPR, AED, and First Aid certified, and I have hands-on experience working with neurodivergent children and children with special needs. I’m an energetic, extroverted, and compassionate caregiver who genuinely loves working with children. It’s one of my greatest passions, and I strive to incorporate it into everything I do.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

I worked at a nature based counselor, so I do things such as teaching kids fun ways to plant and identify plants and bugs. I also love regular children games that range from thoughtful games that allow the children to think and physical activities .

My experience with special needs children...

I’ve worked with neurodivergent children, and specifically at my camp I thrived in the child care of these children. I make sure to practice patience and emotion regulation with special needs children. I tend to build special bonds with children with neurodivergence due to my ability to connect and understand them.
