A little bit about me

Hello families! I’m looking to do be a temporary nanny for up to 3 children here in Ketchikan from December 1st to March, I work on a fishing boat so I am gone a bit of the year. My name is Shania Olsen, I am almost 23, I love doing crafts & activities, I love the outdoors, pet friendly and vaccinated. I was a nanny for about 6 months before the family moved & I started at a childcare center, I was lead teacher in the infant room for about a year & lead teacher in the toddler room for about a year & a half. I also worked as the child advocate at WISH, and the family services advocate at IROCK. I have experience with children with disabilities, teaching a curriculum, and although I am not religious I do have experience teaching religious lessons and activities. More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

Right out of high school I worked as the child advocate for WISH(Women in safe homes) here in Ketchikan, as well as the family services advocate for IROCK, here in Ketchikan, for the last two and a half years I have worked at the first Lutheran childcare center, for one year as the primary infant room teacher, and a year and a half as the primary toddler teacher.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

I enjoy going for walks and collecting flowers and leaves to press between books, as well as playing in the snow or water, depending on weather. I enjoy doing crafts with the children largely focused on sensory development and the seasons. I enjoy doing holiday themed crafts and keepsakes to enjoy for years to come. I also enjoy baking and cooking with children, it also adds a wonderful learning opportunity for kids to learn about measurements, ingredients, cooking time and more. I would like to be able to go to the pool, library, or Rec center in the future.

The most important part about being a nanny...

I think the most important part of being a nanny is caring for the children. I love every single child who has ever been under my care, from that care stems doing everything you can to keep him or her happy and healthy. My experience with special needs children...

I have experience caring for multiple children with Down syndrome, as a babysitter for a few years & as a daycare provider, I have both one of the mothers and the childcare centers phone number available as part of my references. I have also taken classes specializing in caring for children with special needs, both while I was in FEA (future educators of Alaska), and while working at the childcare center.

The most important part about being a nanny...

My favorite nanny moments are easily when you see that little spark in there eyes when they understand something you’ve been working on, when he writes his name for the first time, or when they draw you a picture, I of course keep every one.
