"Shanna is very positive and responsible. She was great with communication and was impressive with her maturity about all situations. She watched my two boys one night, where a neighbor was trying to enter the home unwelcoming and she protected my boys by running with them into the room and called the police. I was so thankful she was smart and did not let her emotions get the best of her. Very impressed with Shanna."

"I've known Shanna for a few years now. She is incredibly responsible. I've been really impressed with how she brings her creativity with tasks she is presented. She showcases amazing ownership in what she does. Children gravitate to her cherry disposition and she is very natural around adults. She is a clear communicator and takes her responsibilities very seriously."

More About Me
Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...
I have nannied for a family of 2 boys. One infant and one 2 year old. The 2 year old I started with when he was an infant. I did this after school from 3 pm to 9 pm and on weekends when they needed. They moved so I no longer work for them.
I have baby sat for another family of 5 children ages infant to 9 yrs old. Im still babysitting when they need it.
I baby sat 2 girls 2 yr old and 3 yr old in 2018 that year in the mornings from 7:30-1:00 pm 3 days a week. ( I was in homeschool kinda of like now)
When I was 8 yrs to 11 years old I would volunteer to read and play with the toddlers at my mothers child development center. I grew up at her center.(80 kids there). Im very familiar with child development and helping with children with special needs. Im currently in a sign language class online. I am 16 but mature for my age. I know how to handle situations & anything I am unsure of I am not afraid to ask and to learn. My mother is a wealth of knowledge and has trained me well.

The most important part about being a nanny...
Is loving the children like you would want to be loved. Staying patient. Baby’s cry and thats ok. You do everything you can to help them. They depend on me. Have fun with them. I hated grumpy baby sitters. Being honest and open with parents. It’s important to communicate and be open with each other.
My experience with special needs children...
I have a wide range and love for children that are handicapable!! Not handicapped- I view them as unique and for sure special I dont like focusing on handicap! These children can do so much for the world around them even if its as simple as bringing joy. I have helped with down syndrome, hydrocephalus is what I think its called- water on the brain, blind, adhd, autism. These type health issues where present in children at my moms center. I love playing and reading to them and just being their friend and them mine.
The most important part about being a nanny...
Of course when they walk or first talking. But my favorite may seem strange to be a favorite because it was scary. Its my favorite because I knew what to do and did it and glad it was just a crazy Neighbors child. Someone was banging on the door one evening and trying to turn the door knob to get in. I was super scared but kept my cool. I ran upstairs with the 2 boys quietly and locked us in the parents room. I called my mom told her as coached to do in a situation like this. She got in the car to race there. I also called the police at same time. I played with the kids and stayed calm. I could here the door rattling off and on still. I hung up with my mom and called the parents to let them know what was happening. The police got there and looked around saw a food package left on door step. My mom got there after the police. The police and parents think it was the Neighboor dropping off treats with their autistic son. They were all proud of me. I was calm and proactive.

I have worked in childcare in a daycare setting for about the last 16 yrs. I attended howard community college to receive all my childcare certifications, I am also CPR/first aid certified and have my medication administration certificate. I absolutely love working with childcare. I work for howard county public schools as a student assistant working with kids in a regional program. Looks like schools and daycares will be close for a couple of weeks due to the virus that's going around. I know childcare is hard to find at the last minute, so if I'm able to help please feel free to contact me
