A little bit about me

Hello! My name is Sharon. I have experience caring for children for over 19 years! I also have experience working as a teacher for 12 to 18 month olds. I am also experienced with special needs children as a paraprofessional aide at an elementary school.

It is always my goal to ensure that the children in my care are safe and have an enriching environment to learn and grow. I am trained in the Reggio Emilia approach as well as CPR. My goal is to keep your child engaged throughout the day with enriching activities in a safe, nurturing environment.

I am outgoing, passionate, I have great work ethic, and I love people (especially kids)!

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

Teacher for 12-18 month olds. I also gained experience at this school taking care of infants 3-12 months.

Paraprofessional aide at an elementary school. I gained experience working with 3 to 4-year-olds. I have experience working with nonverbal, autistic children. Overall I have 9 years of experience caring for a special needs child.

I am also a mother to a 9-year-old little girl. I have been a babysitter since I was 12.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

Baking cookies! Collecting rocks, leaves and other items from nature to paint and craft with. I love arts and crafts activities. Making sensory bins and sensory play doh activities. I love taking kids to the park or to the zoo!

The most important part about being a nanny...

I think what matters most about being a nanny is the ability to connect and bond with a child. The ability to offer a safe and nurturing environment where a child can develop and learn is also paramount in this role.

My experience with special needs children...

I have cared for nonverbal, autistic children ranging in age from 3 to 9 years. I have experience working with children with down syndrome. I also have experience working with mentally challenged children on the higher end of the spectrum. I am experienced in aiding speech therapy. I have experience utilizing basic sign language to communicate with nonverbal children.

The most important part about being a nanny...

There are too many to choose from! One of the sweetest moments I'll always cherish was playing blocks with a 3-year-old special needs student. It was the first day of school and she seen nervous and a bit withdrawn. I was just being silly and I put a few blocks on my head and they fell off and I made a little "oh no" sound. I have never heard a student laugh that hard since. She put the blocks back on my head and I repeated it over and over and and we laughed more each time. We had a special bond after that, and we would do it every time she would choose to play with the blocks. Moments like that when I know that I have really connected with a child are what drive me to be a passionate caregiver.
