I'm 80 yrs old & have been working for disabled adults for 7 yrs. I was a paraeducator at Anthony Elementary for over a year for special edu students. I have college credits that include Child Dev & Caring for Children w Disabilities. I was a Dept of the Army Civilian at Ft Lvn for over 20 years: secy, library tech, assistant editor. I'm a pet owner, gardener, & I craft. I have an Associates Degree. Thirteen yrs as a Walmart cashier, over 4 yrs as a records clerk w/Lvn Cty Sheriff's Office, 2 yrs as a transcriber for 2 psychiatrists. Lived in the same house for 49 yrs.

More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

My son was born in 1970. When my neighbor, Edie, lived in Leavenworth, I watch her 4 children while she grocery shopped. Those children are grown now. In 2005 I was a special education paraeducator for children at Anthony Elementary for over a yesr. I am a caregiver for one disabled adult now, but I've been a caregiver for 7 yrs for adults.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

I used to love helping James & William with their art projects. I took Rick to the library, movies, Aladins at Lvn Plaza, Museum of Natural History in Lawrence, shopping, MacDonald's, & church. He wasn't Catholic, so he saw the statue of the Christ child with the world in his hand. He wanted a card of the little boy with a bomb. I still laugh.

The most important part about being a nanny...

Children enjoy animals, music, stories, doing art projects, learning about other cultures, dinasaurs, the Loch Ness Monster, solar eclipes. Young children are usually easily entertained.

My experience with special needs children...

James was high functioning autistic. He spoke a little, but he was great in art & shooting baskets in the gym. William was hyperactive (as was Rick). Jack was developmentally delayed but a sweet child. Tony was Down's Syndrome & happy all the time. My cousin, Roger, had Muscular Dystrophy. He was great at dominos.

The most important part about being a nanny...

When I first took Rick to Catholic Church, he thought the child Jesus holding the world in his hand was a little boy with a bomb. When I took him to St. Casimir's halloween party, we were told to have the kids dress up as their favorite saint. Rick came as "St. Power Ranger."
