More About Me
Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...
on the autism spectrum, had cerebral palsy, seizure disorder, ADD/ADHD, severe food allergies, hearing impaired, medically fragile,
Activities I enjoy doing with children...
Imaginary play, child-led play, tea parties, Legos (Duplo. I sometimes bring my own to give children something different to play with if they don't have them.), reading, playing games, crafts, baking (If age appropriate. I also do holiday cookies. I bring all the icings, sprinkles, colored sugars & cookies, then clean up everything afterwards.) I enjoy going on walks, hide & seek. I'm up for just about any kind of play!
The most important part about being a nanny...
I think the most important part of being a nanny, besides caring for the littles, is keeping open & honest communication between the parents & yourself. I've been caring for newborns since I was 12yo. A lot of my families had zero experience with babies prior to having their own. I could easily tell them what I would do, but that's not what they're paying me to do. Parents need to do their own thing. If they ask me a question or my opinion on something, I'm happy to give advice. If I notice something serious, I wouldn't hesitate to tell the parents. I always give Mom & Dad an update about how their little did that day, how long they slept, etc. I NEVER tell them if the baby took first steps/said a word on my watch. Mom & Dad should have the honor of seeing baby's firsts!
My experience with special needs children...
Having 2 children on the spectrum has given me first hand knowledge of caring for neurodivergent kiddos. My son was 2yo when he regressed and quit talking. We dove head first into the world of testing, speech therapy, occupational therapy. I have gone toe-to-toe with after school programs, numerous teachers, principals and law enforcement advocating for my child.
That being said, I have babysat several children on the spectrum. You just have to be prepared for anything. I'm always hyper aware of my surroundings at the time & make sure it's a safe place to play. I've had head bangers, a teen with rumination syndrome, and non-verbal kiddos who sat & screamed. As in nursing, keeping my cool and being prepared for anything.

The most important part about being a nanny...
I had a Momma tell me her children only ate chicken nuggets and frozen pizza. I had brought carrots & hummus as part of my lunch. The kids got curious and decided they wanted to try it. I snapped a pic of them eating carrots & hummus, and sent it to Mom. She was amazed. She asked how I got them to eat that. I told her, "I just put it in front of them.
