Hi! My name is Shyla, and I’m a full time student at SMU studying Biology. I love working with children. I have experience through my internship at Children’s Health, where I worked with families and helped create a welcoming and comfortable environment for children. I have extensive volunteering work tutoring students from ages 5-16 in a multitude of subjects. I also have a passion for working with students with disabilities through activities and sports.

I’m patient, attentive, and comfortable keeping children engaged through games, crafts, reading, outdoor activities, or simply spending quality time together. I understand how important it is for parents to feel confident that their children are safe, cared for, and having fun. More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

I've volunteered at Children's Medical Center Dallas in direct contact with patients, calming them before their visits with the doctor. I have also tutored young children in science, math, and reading from ages 5-10, as well as English tutoring for students ages 14-16. I have volunteer experience through Best Buddies and Partner's PE with children with special needs.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

I love keeping kids active, creative, and engaged with a mix of indoor and outdoor activities. Indoors, I enjoy doing arts and crafts, baking, reading, playing board games, building with LEGO, and coming up with fun activities that match their interests. Outdoors, I love going to parks, playing sports and games, riding bikes or scooters, going on walks, and having little adventures outside. I also enjoy letting kids use their imagination and take the lead in choosing activities, whether that means making up a game, exploring nature, or having a fun dance party at home. Most importantly, I want kids to have fun while feeling comfortable, supported, and encouraged to try new things!

I have volunteered with children with autism, down syndrome, and cerebral palsy during school in athletic activities and arts and crafts.
