More About Me
Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...
I’ve taught elementary, middle and high school high school in the Nepali Himalayas during a civil war. I have been working with children in Vermont since moving here upon graduating The University of Cambridge England in 2008. I’ve taught, nannied, run summer camps, and afterschool programs, played, laughed with, loved, taught to swim, taught to drive, discovered rocks with, imagined universes beyond our dreams with and eaten snacks most of the way through with many children, of different ages, in different countries, and I am deeply aware of the privilege I’ve enjoyed. Despite many adult qualifications and work experiences I always gravitate back to working with children, it reminds me to stay magic - here, now, today - and not to take myself too seriously.
Activities I enjoy doing with children...
Building anything, knocking it down, building it again, playing with colour and textures and assumptions, learning how to make fires, forts, painting, swimming, dancing, laughing, boating, cooking, singing, reading, writing, and often doing the thing we just did a second time or more; to fully familiarize ourselves with it (which I have found often irritates adults and I’ve never understood why: if it’s nice it’s fun to do twice).
The most important part about being a nanny...
My connection with the child.
My experience with special needs children...
I have raised two kids on the Autism spectrum and cared for and taught many more. I have a lot of experience with kids with trauma, mental
Illnesses and developmental delays. I am good at helping children learn how to teach the world to flex to accommodate their needs. I believe that’s often one of the most helpful things I can do: help the child learn ways to advocate for themselves so the adults can learn how to adjust to meet their needs. I have a lot personal experience learned, and sometimes re-learned around how to accommodate a slightly different set of needs within a family or school environment.

Getting picked up when my car broke down by a child I used to look after (who now drives their own car).
