Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

I spent over a year working at Rooted Academy, which was an establishment that provided nursery, daycare, preschool, and after-school care services. As an professional care provider, I worked in all of these departments, specializing in taking care of the kids physical and emotional needs. During my experience here, I learned how to maintain environmental and structural order while simultaneously providing an nurturing and stimulating environment. Along with my experience at Rooted Academy, I have also worked at various summer camps as an camp counselor and activity director. In my experience at these summer camps, I learned how to create active and engaging activities, as well as how to be an trusted adult children felt safe confiding in.

My experience with special needs children...

During my experience at Rooted Academy, there were quite a few kids who had developmental challenges and/or autism. In my experience working with them, I would always made sure they felt truly heard, understood, and advocated for. If their emotions ever got the best of them, I would take them to a calm area, outside the stimulating environment, and give them something to squish until they calmed down and were ready to talk.

The most prominent special needs category faced in my experience as a care provider is children with ADHD. As someone who has learned to manage their ADHD, I am passionate about passing along coping skills I've learned to the youth.
