A little bit about me

Hi! My name is Sophie Leskovar, and I’m 21 years old. I’m currently a junior at the University of Wisconsin–Whitewater, studying Early Childhood Special Education through their online program.

I have a passion for working with children and helping them learn, grow, and feel supported at every stage. My education has given me a strong foundation in child development, behavior management, and inclusive learning practices—skills I bring into every childcare setting.

As a nanny, I aim to create a safe, fun, and nurturing environment where kids feel heard and understood. Whether it’s engaging in sensory play, reading stories, or supporting emotional development, I bring patience, creativity, and responsibility to each day.

I’d love the opportunity to support your family and be a positive part of your child’s life!

More About Me

With over 12 years of experience caring for and working with children of all ages, I have developed a strong foundation in child development, patience, and effective communication. My background includes:

- Daycare Experience: Served as a Lead Toddler Teacher for 2 years at my local daycare, working primarily with children ages 1–2. In this role, I planned and implemented age-appropriate activities, supported early developmental milestones, and collaborated with families to ensure each child’s success.

- Educational Background: Currently pursuing a degree in Education and Special Education at the University of Whitewater.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

- Arts and crafts (painting, drawing, DIY projects)
- Reading stories and interactive storytime
- Sensory play (playdough, water tables, sand, textured bins)
- Outdoor play (parks, nature walks, scavenger hunts)
- Educational games and puzzles
- Music and movement (sing-alongs, dancing, simple instruments)

- Building with blocks, Legos, or other construction toys

Science experiments and hands-on STEM fun
- Circle time activities (songs, calendar, themed discussions)

- Fine motor skill activities (lacing cards, sorting games)

The most important part about being a nanny...

The most important part about being a nanny is building a trusting, supportive relationship with both the children and their families. A nanny plays a key role in a child's daily life and development, so creating a safe, nurturing, and consistent environment is essential. I believe in being patient, present, and responsive to each child’s individual needs—emotionally, socially, and developmentally. It’s also important to maintain open communication with parents to ensure we’re working together to support the child’s growth. Whether it’s helping a toddler reach milestones, supporting a child with differing abilities, or simply being a reliable, positive presence in their day, the impact a nanny has goes far beyond basic care—it’s about helping children feel seen, valued, and loved.

My experience with special needs children...

My experience working with children with special needs spans over many years and age groups. I began volunteering in my mom’s special education classrooms, assisting children ages 2 to 10 with a variety of needs. As I got older, I expanded my involvement by volunteering with students in elementary, middle, and high school settings. These experiences inspired me to start a Best Buddies club at my high school to promote inclusion and friendship for students with disabilities. I’ve had the privilege of working with children who are deaf or hard of hearing, blind, and those with autism, down syndrome, ADHD, and other developmental and learning differences. These opportunities have helped me develop patience, adaptability, and a strong commitment to inclusion—values that continue to guide me as I pursue a degree in Education and Special Education.
