A little bit about me

Hi! My name is Stevie, and all of my professional experience with kids is lifeguarding at pools so I have been CPR/AED/first aid/ and water rescue certified for years and made save. I have taught one on one swimming lessons. I have babysat plenty of times for my family too. I love to cook and clean, and I play musical instruments and can even teach lessons for those that I play. (Piano, drums, and string instruments.) I am handy and can use tools and fix small stuff like door hinges or broken kitchen chairs: things like that. I would love to be a live in nanny as that also takes care of finding a new place to live. I moved back in with my parents because they let me play my musical instruments, and I pay rent. I have a car. I have no children of my own so I am not anchored down to any one place. And I love being a caregiver.

More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

I have been a manager, swimming lesson instructor, pool operator, and lifeguard at dozens of pools. I worked with families and whole camps of children around the hazards of deep water and dangerous pool chemicals, and was trained and included in many emergency activation plans at many pools. I have made saves and was third to the scene during a CPR rescue where the little girl survived. My pool experience is as follows: Winkler pool Management, Inc.- [phone number hidden], US Aquatics- [phone number hidden], Marlton Pool- [phone number hidden], Oxen Hill Pool 2006, Greenbelt Aquatics and Fitness Center- 2011, Baltimore City Parks and Recreation- 2015. I also babysat for family, and have 30+ younger cousin with whom I am close.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

I love music. I play and can teach musical instruments. I can teach swimming and am a good swimmer. I love sports, board games, and some video games. I can teach children to cook and am an excellent cook myself. I like teaching people things, so even homework is actually fun for me too. :) I like being handy and cleaning, and sometimes I like just having a good conversation. I am learning Spanish and would love to pass along what I know, which is also good practice for me.

The most important part about being a nanny...

Kids' brains are like super sponges compared to adult brains. Teaching children life skills when they are still children is the most important thing I can bring to the table: cooking (and kitchen appliance safety), sewing (and sewing safety), cleaning, using hand tools properly and safely, how to eat healthy and be physically healthy. I am skilled and educated writer, and can pass along rhetoric and writing tips for school. I can teach math up to a tenth grade level (uncertified).

My experience with special needs children...

I have ADHD myself and can pass along the coping mechanisms I have developed over the years. I definitely have watched special needs children as a lifeguard, and I have definitely taught ADHD children to swim.

The most important part about being a nanny...

My most memorable story about watching children was being the third person on the scene to rescuing a drowned girl with no pulse. I was working at Patterson Park pool in Baltimore. Because I was the third person to the scene it was my job to sprint to the nearest landline and call 911. A few minutes after that when I could hear the ambulance I sprinted to them to direct them to the one road along the perimeter of the park that lead to the pool in the middle of the park. I must have sprinted a half a mile. But good news. The girl who had just been technically dead ten minutes earlier was revived. And though it was not the only save I have participated in or made, it was the only CPR save I have participated in and the most I have ever had to do during a save. And the girl survived, which is the important part.
