I have worked in Pre-K for more than 15 years Memphis/Shelby County Schools as well as Chicago Public Schools 6+ years. I worked as Assistant Childcare Director for 2 years in Calumet City, IL. I am currently an over night nanny for a 4 year old autism boy. I do have references upon request.
Activities I enjoy doing with children...
I enjoy taking children to the Zoo on free day Tuesday. As well as taking children to local places like Children's Museum to play, to Shelby Farms Christmas Lights and Pink Palace Christmas and IMAX theater. I enjoy picnic in the park with small activities embedded throughout the experience. I enjoy taking children to the library to experience the classroom setting for working while seated. I enjoy doing paint activities, reading interesting books, singing songs and have game nights with the children. I enjoy taking children to local play dates just for fun.
The most important part about being a nanny...
What matters most is that I get to pour into a child's life that is missing the fun, the human inclusion, a broken piece and they can take the smallest act of kindness and show you all the love when they can get your attention.
My experience with special needs children...
I have worked with children with disabilities for 6 years while working for Memphis City Schools before the merger. I worked specifically with autism, ADD, ADHD, and Down Syndrome children.
The most important part about being a nanny...
My most memorable experience was when my autistic child took some food from my plate and ran with it and as I was approaching him to get it back, he stuck it in his mouth really fast and didn't realize it was raw cauliflower with balsamic vinegar, the face he made was priceless. I laughed so hard.
