A little bit about me

I am 47 and have worked mainly with children on the autism spectrum. I have a loving gentle way with children. I treat all children as if they were my own. I believe that with understanding love and compassion as well as gentle discipline approach that all children can conquer whatever the battle is for them. I have worked with severely traumatized children as well. Children that have been disciplinary issues for parents and that have retreated into a shell afraid to be seen. I used the same approach with all of them. Understanding comes first I make sure that they understand what is expected of them and that it is obtainable for them. We set small goals so they feel like they are accomplishing something. That builds their value in their own eyes. We celebrate all accomplishments so they feel a sense of self worth and if the time comes for discipline I use the egg timer method. I let them know they are in control of when the timer gets set and once it is set and goes off they can go.

When the child that was a disciplinary problem sat quietly while in time out for 15 minutes. The timer went off and she got up quietly and brought me the timer and said here was the timer hugged me and went to play nicely. She from that moment on gave me no issues and was a complete joy.
