More About Me
Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...
I have three grown daughters of my own and 11 grandkids between them. I have taught private piano lessons for more than two decades in both the Inland Empire and Orange County, and I currently teach Culinary Arts at La Quinta Middle School Stem Academy. I am pursuing a PhD in Education, Society, and Culture through UCR, and I am a volunteer with the non -profit organization Voices for Children, where I am a CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate, representing children in the foster care system by giving them a voice in court.
Activities I enjoy doing with children...
1. I love to play piano and have more than 20 years experience teaching kids AND adults to play
2. I am a Culinary Arts Instructor at La Quinta Middle School Stem Academy and LOVE to cook (and to teach kids how THEY can make healthy meals, too!)
3. I am an aspiring author with my first novel almost ready to be submitted for publication, and I also have a hobby of junk-journaling, something I can share with your kids!
4. I find solace in connecting with nature, whether that is riding bicycles and enjoying the scenery, going on campus campouts, or taking day trips to the mountains or the beach... both of which are easily within driving distance!
5. Above all else, I love, love, LOVE learning, and have been blessed with the ability to tutor young people with their academic challenges, especially in Language Arts.

The most recent personally rewarding moment in my interaction and engagement with young people was justice last week when time a group of junior high school students I had been teaching cooking to during summer session at La Quinta Middle School STEM Academy that I hope to see them again when school resumes, but that if not, I wish them all nothing but the best and I know they can do anything they set their sights on. This rowdy bunch of 6th, 7th and 8th graders fell completely silent when I expressed my belief in them and in their futures. This confirmed for me what I already knew: that all children need encouragement and praise and hope for a better tomorrow.
