Indoors, we play puzzles, read books, do homework if needed, watch TV and play with toys (cars, trucks, Legos, blocks etc.) Outside we walk around the neighborhood or go to an indoor playground, or go to the park and play soccer.

Making sure the kids are fine and are having fun. Sometimes it's a bad day but I ultimately care if they are fine.
My experience with special needs children...
Not as expansive but I have some experience watching a cousin on the autism spectrum. They were quiet and not really fussy and loved to play with Legos and read books and just spend time with us.
