A little bit about me

Hello, my name is Todd. I have many years experience working with children as a teacher. I have a play full nature that I balance with positive discipline and redirection when needed. I love creative activities and reading to children. I teach children self help skills that help them to feel proud confident. My teaching style is play-based. I encourage children to explore and discover the world around them while learning. I teach children in my care to problem solve socially and during their learning process. I also focus on social emotional development as well. I enjoy working with the parents to ensure that their children are getting the care and skills that are in line with the parents, culture, expectations, and belief system. I always try my best to create this consistency between my care the child’s parents. I enjoy creating a parent partnership to build trust so that everyone is comfortable and I can provide the best care. Working with families and children is my passion.

More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

20 plus years experience in preschool setting as lead teacher, administrator and staffing supervisor. I have direct experience with children ages 6 months through 13 years old. Duties included supervision of children, curriculum and parent partnerships.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

My favorite activities are creative art and reading stories. I also love to work with parents to help creat a consistent routine that helps to promote success with child focused goals.

The most important part about being a nanny...

It’s very important to create a partnership with parents. This helps to have consistency of care and a clear understanding of the parents expectations. It’s important for me to create a trusting bond with the child and create an atmosphere of love, trust and respect with them. Once this bond is in place with both the parents and the child I am able to do my job in a much more effective way in and it is important for me to address the whole child when they are in my care. This includes all of their basic and physical needs as well as nurturing their development of cognitive, social, and academic skills. It’s important that they know how to problem solve how to learn through discovery and exploration.

My experience with special needs children...

Not much direct experience with diagnosed special needs children. Most of my experience is with preschool children who are too young to have an official diagnosis. That being said I do understand that each child is an individual and I meet them wherever they may be developmentally and help to be the best version of themselves. That looks different for each child.

The most important part about being a nanny...

I had developed a great connection with a family after a few years of caring for three of their children. Their youngest child was what we liked to call spirited. I had a wonderful relationship with her. I was able to use a balance of love and positive discipline. One night around midnight I received a call from mom pleading with me to talk to her daughter who had taken all of her clothes and made a mountain in the middle of her room. Mom yells”Mr. Todd is on the phone!” Lauren picks up the phone and in a happy voice says “Hi Mr. Todd!” “hi Lauren do you know why mom called me?” Lauren said “I made a mountain! I can climb it!” I said “ that sounds fun, maybe we can make a mountain tomorrow but now it’s time to sleep. Lauren agreed. we sang the clean up song on speaker phone as she cleaned up and then said “I’m tired and going to bed. Goodnight Mr. Todd.” Good night Lauren” I said. The next morning mom was grateful and embarrassed. she apologized. I told her”that’s what I’m here for”
