A little bit about me

My name is Tracy Huddleston. I am a 54 year old Mimi to 3 grandsons, ages 3, 2 and 2 weeks. I have 2 grown children of my own and at different times through the years had 10 others who lived in my home.
I have always had a special affinity for children as most of my career revolved around them. I worked for AL DHR as a financial support social worker (Food Stamps, Child Support), GA DFACS as a Medicaid support social worker. I then went to work at Roanoke City Schools as the Child Nutrition Program Director and Payroll Supervisor. I worked with preschool to age 18, in 3 schools, for 20 years until my youngest child graduated. I then worked in Nutrition and Accounting for one of the largest daycare providers in Georgia. The company, owning a total of three facilities, easily cared for 250 low-income children.
I have been the sole caregiver for my oldest grandsons, but the youngest will enjoy time home with his mom.. I am looking to fill my time offering a family loving care.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

Gardening, cooking and fishing were three of the things that were taught to me by my grandparents. I think it’s important to continue those types of traditions with all children. My grandfather loves all music and all instruments. I have attempted to pass that live with children in my roles as VBS music leader and Choir Director. I have a minor in music with 13 years of classical piano and voice training. I have taught my two oldest grands to swim and have offered swimming lessons to others after being certified as a lifeguard in high school and college. I am interested in many types of craft projects and will pick projects that children can help with so they can learn. Reading has always been a huge part of my life and I believe that it is important to start reading to children very early on. Reading stimulates the imagination, helps children to develop broader vocabularies, makes them better
spellers and in general benefits their overall IQ.

The most important part about being a nanny...

Children need to know that they have somebody in their corner. This person is usually a parent or some other family member, but occasionally life gets in the way. Parents are busy, family isn’t located close by or sometimes adults just let children down. I make it a point for my children to know that they are loved unconditionally, but that doesn’t mean that they aren’t held responsible for their actions. Simply that regardless of whatever life throws their way, they will always have a cheerleader, an advocate, a listening ear or a long hug in me. And that love will last if they are 2 months old or 22 years old.

My experience with special needs children...

I have worked with special needs children in my role as a Child Nutrition Director of public schools. Parents would often be called in, along with their student(s), so that we could work together to develop a meal plan and recipes that their children would enjoy. This allowed me to learn of any particular dietary needs the student might face, but also any goals that the children’s doctors and parents wanted us to work toward at school in hopes that these goals would then trickle into the home environment.

The most important part about being a nanny...

My favorite part of being involved in any child’s life is when really small children give you the hardest and longest hugs for no particular reason. Not only does it allow me to show my love and support to them but it also fills my heart in ways that nothing else can.
