A little bit about me

I'm Valerie. I recently moved to Hawaii. I have 2+ years of experience as a teachers aide at an educational care learning center with a responsibility for ages 16 months - 33 months. I also have experience in my personal life, most recently with my twin niece and nephew, who I took care of 8 hours a day for 3/4 days a week from ages 2 months to 23 months (when I made the move) along with their 4-year-old sister. I understand that each child is unique, so it's important to get to know the needs of them individually, even if it's as simple as the easiest way to put them down for a nap, or the stubbornness that comes with potty training. I'm ready for the responsibility of taking care of your child and all of the challenges that may come along with that. More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

I worked as a nanny when I was 17 for 6 months but unfortunately the family moved:( More recently I worked as a teachers aide at an educational care center. I loved loved loved my job and worked there consistently until I moved. I had up to 7 toddlers to myself at a time and 14 toddlers when another teacher was present. I also have 5 younger brothers who I took care of consistently and a twin niece and nephew whom I watched for 8 hours a day, 3 days a week, from the ages of 2 months- 23 months. I cared for them along with their older sister who was 2 at the time they were born.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

While specific ages require different activities, my favorite activities are probably sensory play (shaving cream in a tub, rice, sand, glue), building blocks, crafts, and anything outside!

The most important part about being a nanny...

The most important part about being a nanny is understanding how different each child is and adapting to their specific needs. Sometimes that takes time but it is always worth it in the end.

My experience with special needs children...

While I worked at the educational care center, one of my seven Primary children was a little girl with Down syndrome. We instantly became best friends! We stuck to each others sides the whole time I worked there. It was very hard to leave such wonderful children.

The most important part about being a nanny...

My favorite nanny moment was when my primary little girl with down syndrome said my name for the first time. She was very selective with her words and knowing she chose to learn and say my name will forever be something I hold dearly to my heart.
