A little bit about me

I’m 36, I have 3 boys one who has Social form of autism. They are 11, 14, & 17. I was a personal care assistant for bethel home-care for 5 years til my client went into assisted living due to the family needing round the clock care. I have many year’s experience in childcare. I use to watch kids as my 4th period class in high school and have continued with child care for family and friends. I have all kinds of experiences in the restaurant industry and have acquired wide verity of cooking skills. I’m pretty good with my academic skills especially math and love to help children reach their full abilities in understanding with any struggles they may have at school.

More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

I have many years in child care experience of other’s children as well as of my own. My youngest is autistic, I’m familiar with how to handle special needs children. I’ve volunteered at the boys and girls club in Shelby when I was younger. I’ve studied psychology to better understand how children think and how to respond to their disruptive behaviors. I don’t believe in harsh punishment. I believe in talking to the child and allowing the child to set goals so that the behavior doesn’t continue. I like to encourage and help children in areas they may struggle.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

I enjoy outside when weather permits over anything else. I’m not big on technology as much as I am hand on learning. I like education games or games for fun, not video games.

The most important part about being a nanny...

Teaching thru example. Respect, manners and morals. Positive thoughts and ways to overcome the negative life throws at us. That way we children can grow into who they are meant to be.

My experience with special needs children...

I’ve had the pleasure of dealing with multiple different special needs. I’m more advance on the autism, add/adhd and personality disorders.

The most important part about being a nanny...

I had a child who was very defiant towards his parents & authority. He tried to run me off a couple times, lied and kept trying to get rid of me. I’d continue to talk to him and ask him questions and include him in what we was doing. He’d refuse and ignore me. I never gave up. I gave tips to the parents and in matter of weeks. He started to come around and started participating. In a month he stopped me while playing and thanked me for not giving up on him. He didn’t like being how he was he just didn’t know how else to be.
