In my family I've always been the go-to babysitter, I'm the eldest of all the children so I've babysat a good handful of kids. I've also worked for people on this app before! I have experience mainly with neurodivergent kids, for example when I was volunteering at the Vancouver Community Library and we had a reading time for autistic children. I even had a hand in making the books for it! It was a lot of fun.
Activities I enjoy doing with children...
I love playing the games kids make up usually! Their imagination never cease to amaze me. If they want me to make a game my go to is to draw and color with them. I'm good at incorporating learning in with playing games such as numbers and small amounts of reading, it of course depends on the child's age and I'll adjust accordingly!
The most important part about being a nanny...
In my opinion the most important part about being a nanny would be gaining the kids trust. Sometimes a kid hates you just because they realize their parents will leave every time you show up, things like that can be difficult but when they are able to trust you it really makes a difference.
My experience with special needs children...
I've worked with a lot of special needs kids. One of my most difficult kids was a toddler who had selective mutism and it was often difficult to understand what he needed because he was to young to write or read and didn't talk. Another instance is when I volunteered at the Vancouver Community Library, we had reading time for young autistic kids where the books had different textures and were intractable, being autistic myself I helped with choosing what textures would be best suited for the books.
The most important part about being a nanny...
I think my favorite moments is when I realize I've gotten a kid to like me! The moment they get exited to see me when I arrive and say hi makes my heart feel so full and remember just how much I love working with kids.
