A little bit about me

Hello! My name is Wadeaa. I've always liked working with children and I think there's a very rewarding aspect of watching them grow. Through my experience with them, I find myself growing as well. For example, I am an English as Second Language Speaker, but by working with a dozens of children over the past eight years, I have come to learn a few new words along my children. This can happen while we are singing Old MacDonald had a Farm, reading Five Little Monkeys Jumping on the Bed, or just when talking among st ourselves. By being together with children, it feels like we are entering a completely new world which is astonishing because we are able to see the world through their eyes. In a way, it makes me feel like a child again and that's why I love being and working with them.

I have an Associate Degree in Child Development. I've been working in a Child Development Center for the past eight years so I have a tremendous amount of experience!

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

My favorite activities include painting, playing outside with balls, reading stories, singing, and many more. Essentially, the most enjoyable activities are ones that children enjoy so I like to communicate with them and do an activity that they enjoy.

The most important part about being a nanny...

The most important thing about being a nanny is constantly observing the child and communicating with them. By observing the child, I'm able to assess the child's needs and react quickly when necessary. This may include feeding, changing diapers, playing, and communicating.

My experience with special needs children...

About two years ago, I worked with a child who had osteoporosis which made his bones very weak and brittle. This meant that not only did I have to emotionally care for him with the utmost care, but also physically. When changing his diapers, I would pick him up from his wheel chair and carefully put him back. I also worked with a child who can't see. I would hold his hand and walk around with him so he could feel items and discuss the functions and descriptions of each item. I also tried to make the area around him more spacious so that he could navigate around more easily.

The most important part about being a nanny...

My favorite nanny moment is when I was working with a child who would never sleep unless I read a story for him. However, event that wasn't enough for him! He would sleep after I read the story two to three times for him. By the second time, he would have the story memorized and then he would read along with me. This is a memorable moment because I loved seeing him get excited about story time. Slowly he cognitive skills were improving and being part of the growth is very rewarding.
