A little bit about me

Hi! My name is Wilbur, and I am a junior in high school on the honor roll. I participate in the school newspaper, improv theater group, and our math assistants tutoring program. My passion is working with children, and I plan on studying early childhood education in college. I have volunteered extensively at my school's preschool and lower schools. I also babysit for many of my teachers and have worked at a summer camp the past two years. My biggest priority when working with kids is maintaining safety (both physical and emotional), learning new things, and having fun. I have had my driver's license for 2 years and have regular access to a car. I am happy to provide pick-up/drop-off, bedtime care, and homework help. I'm also a competent cook and have experience with special diets, and neurodivergence.

More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

I volunteered at my school's pre-school and extended care program. I spend a lot of time with the kids there and have gotten to know them quite well. I also babysit for four different families and have worked at two summer camps!

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

I generally follow the child's interests (and parent instructions of course) but I am a big fan of art activities, as well as anything that involves the imagination. I love running around with the kids so we can all expend some of the wiggles and anything in nature is definitely a plus. I also attempt to implement my budding knowledge of developmental milestones to try and improve things like motor and social skills.

The most important part about being a nanny...

For me working with kids is about helping to develop who they are as people while creating an environment where it is safe to fail and learning is fun. My philosophy in childcare is that the child's emotions and interests are to be respected and explored.

My experience with special needs children...

I currently have very limited experience in this area. I have worked with autistic kids a few times, but never for very long. I am happy to learn though, and as someone on the spectrum myself I have a good understanding of common struggles. I also am familiar with a couple of signs that I use with toddlers and kiddos who may have speech delays.

The most important part about being a nanny...

I have many funny quotes from the kids I work with, because they do truly say the most random and adorable things. One of my favorite moments (because I of course can't pick a single fav) is when a child spent about five minutes thinking aloud to me what would happen if she ate a porcupine. At the end of this she said with resolve "I'll never eat a porcupine, never ever!" I quote this to my mother frequently because it always gives me a good laugh.
