My experience with special needs children...
Though I am willing to learn, I've never really cared for special needs children. I've seen people do it growing up. My oldest brother has down syndrome and I've taken care of him before but it wasn't a big task if you know what I mean. He was in a special school and I've been around people with the same or worse condition but I've never been a real aid myself.
The most important part about being a nanny...
When I had not moved to the US yet, I came to visit family in Maryland once and my uncle's wife had a 2 year old boy, very energetic, he was a lot of work for his mom. She used to take him to daycare but when I arrived I offered to babysit him. He was the hardest kid I've ever delt with but I was able to manage him, to get him to listen to me. I was so happy and that made me realize that I am actually good with children.
