For six months I was a preschool teacher’s assistant at Saint James Lutheran Preschool. It was the most divine experience and I miss my kids all the time. However with my new college semester coming up I decided that a more full time route would be better.

The most important part about being a nanny...
The most important part about being a nanny is having a kind nature while also balancing discipline. Learning to make mistakes and correcting them is crucial for young kids to take these traits with them into adulthood. I do not agree with harsh parenting however if a child is putting themselves in danger or is hurt that’s when I will be more concerned and teach them why it’s dangerous and why we do not do it but consequences are helpful, I just don’t think they need to be cruel.
My experience with special needs children...
I am currently under the care of two kids with behavioral and health issues. They are a lot but using gentle parenting tools and patience can get a very long way. I don’t agree with getting short with your kids especially when they have neurodivergent issues that they cannot help or control. As an adolescent I was also in foster care for a year and a half and at the age of sixteen I was taking care of two kids with medium functioning autism. Not only was our relationship so successful but we understood each other on a different basis.
The most important part about being a nanny...
My favorite nanny moment was when I was babysitting two kids and we were playing Mario kart and just having so much fun laughing and giggling. It’s the simple things that make life that much sweeter. I think about that moment every time I go to their home and hope that we have as lovely as a time as we did inside of that moment.
