A little bit about me

Hi I’m Zelie! I’m a senior at WWU studying Biocultural anthropology, living in downtown Bellingham. I spent four years working at a childcare center with newborns and children up to five year’s old and spent a year nannying for a 2 year old so I have extensive experience with a wide range of ages as-well as training in first aid, safe sleep and food safety. For the past year I have worked as a part time nanny and babysitter for several families. I also have experience with older kids through working at summer camps and being an older sibling to my younger brother and sister. I love to be creative and was raised by an art teacher. My favorite activity to do with kids is art of any kind, I enjoy spending time outdoors and am comfortable with animals. I am currently looking for part time work babysitting and doing childcare on the days and times that I’m not in class

More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

I have been an assistant lead teacher at first years childcare center on bainbridge island since the summer of my sophomore year in high school and I still sometimes return to work there over my breaks when I go home to visit my family. I have worked mostly with the 3-5 age group in my pre-k classroom however i also have a decent amount of experience with newborns, babies and toddlers as well as older kids. At this job I received a background check and have been trained in first aid, safe sleep, and food safety. Some of these certifications are out of date at this time but I am willing to update them.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

I love to do art and creative activities with kids as well as spending time playing outdoors and learning about nature.

The most important part about being a nanny...

The most important thing about being a nanny or working with kids in any way is being compassionate. Of course it is important to withhold the rules and expectations of the family however kindness and compassion should always come first. It is also very important to me not to speak down to children because they are younger but acknowledged that they understand more than we may think and deserve to be spoken to as a person rather than just a child.

My experience with special needs children...

I do not have much experience with special needs children other than one that I had in my class. I have not received any real training for working with special needs children however I am always willing to learn and try my best.

The most important part about being a nanny...

My favorite thing about working with the kids I have worked with has been watching them grow up from being toddlers in the baby rooms to five year olds ready to move to kindergarten. It is so special to me that I was able to watch these kids grow and become little people and also how they always remember me when I come back to the center.
