Most definitely the most important for me about being a nanny is the safety of everyone. But also creating fun and stimulating activities to do and helping the kids with school and creating educational moments. creating a safe and comfortable environment for the youth I work with.
My experience with special needs children...
While a DSP at LifeScape I worked with and was trained to be able to handle autism, cerebral palsy, mental illness, down syndrome, and other medical needs. had 40 hours of training to help special need children and 20 hours on mental illness training. My mother also works for Compass Center for families which is one of Wyomings big child development centers.
The most important part about being a nanny...
One of my favorite moments working at LifeScape with the boys was I had been working with a dorm of 14 boys and I had watch and had been the primary staff for 3 of them for the day! One of my boys Isiah, in particular was more defient in doing chores and going to bed on time. I always allowed music and encouraged it while doing chores and helping them complete there chores but not just doing it for them. Isiah was again having a hard time getting motivated to complete his three chores. Isiah wasn't a fan of mopping and it was his last chore left and I told Isiah I had the perfect song to help him get through this chore! I said if you mop this half of the floor I'll mop the other half, but while dancing to see who can dance and mop at the same time the best! So Isiah was up first for the dance with mopping and I really had the best jam on for the whole thing cause Isiah took over on dancing and didn't even realize he mopped the whole floor dancing.
