I have been babysitting since I was in middle school. I have also worked in an outdoor education position with children in the summer for 1-2 years now.
Activities I enjoy doing with children...
I love to do arts and crafts, as well as music related activities and stories. Brain teasers and puzzles are some of my favorite things to do. Playing outside is something very important to me, taking the time to learn about the weather and nature. Learning about different aspects of the world ie. basic cooking, plants, animals, words etc.
The most important part about being a nanny...
The most important thing is the children. It is most important that they are safe, supported and happy. It is required that I work with the child as a friend and a caregiver and not as an authority.
My experience with special needs children...
I have cared for children with mental health issues and mental illness/disorders. I have also worked with children who have different physical disorders which ranges from injuries to disorders from birth. I believe that none of these things are issues that need to be solved and instead differences that require accommodations and education/understanding. None of these things are faults of the person experiencing them and instead are something that others need to learn about and change their behavior around to best support the individual how they would prefer.
